5-min Masala Chai Mix [Masala Tea spice]

Written by Nipa Shah

You can never get a cup of tea large enough or a book long enough to suit me. ~ C.S. Lewis.

This quote basically suits me to a T, pun intended, lol.  A tasty cup of masala chai [spiced tea] requires the use of very good masala [spice mix]. And the best way to have very good masala at hand is to make it yourself at home. It takes 5 minutes to make and it’s oh so satisfying when everyone exclaims over the delicious spiced cup of tea that results from its use.

If you enjoy cooking, then the spices required to make chai masala are pretty much at hand. Just mix up a small batch everytime you run out and enjoy a delicious cup of tea anytime.

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 tbsp dry ginger powder
  • 8 green cardamoms [whole]
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 1 tsp cloves [~25-30 whole kernels]
  • 1 tsp peppercorns [~25-30 whole kernels]
  • 2 inch, thick stick cinnamon

DIRECTIONS

  • Place all spices in a coffee grinder and grind into a fine powder.
  • Store in an airtight container at room temperature.

I just love the rich brown color of freshly made chai masala!

USAGE

  • I use 1/4 tsp for ~2 cups of tea.
