Ease the Blues with Energizing & Healing Ginger Turmeric Tea

Written by Nipa Shah

In our family, an impending cold or cough invariably brings about a request for “ginger tea”.

My family swears to the healing properties of Ginger and I believe that by drinking this concoction in the initial stages of feeling “not so good”, we’ve either prevented or shortened the duration of our illness.

The first signs of cold can be very apparent with symptoms like a scratchy throat, headache, and pain in the sinus region, sometimes accompanied by the start of a runny nose. Sometimes there are no symptoms – just the general “blah” feeling.

But regardless of whether you’ve got the symptoms or are just feeling the blues, try my recipe out. And follow the exact directions on how often to drink it for maximum effect.

Whether it works as well for you and your loved ones or not, this tea should not cause any side effects for people who have no allergies to the ingredients listed. [In any case, please read my disclaimers below.]

Here’s to your good health!

INGREDIENTS

Ginger + Turmeric + Black Pepper

DIRECTIONS

  1. Heat two cups of water in a pan.
  2. Add one tablespoon of grated ginger to the above water.
  3. Allow the ginger and water to simmer for 10-12 minutes on medium heat. Stir occasionally and monitor the water level to ensure it doesn’t burn off.
  4. Add 1/2 teaspoon of turmeric & 1/2 teaspoon of black pepper to the ginger water.
[Black pepper is necessary for turmeric absorption].

Drink 1/4 cup every two hours [obviously make more as needed] and do this for 2-3 days or until symptoms disappear or lighten.
