Our biggest enemy is our mind!

Control the Mind
Written by Nipa Shah

Our mind is our enemy. It makes us angry. It causes us to feel sadness. It steals our mental peace.

Our mind makes us unhappy.

  • Every time we try to move forward with a new venture, our mind reminds us of past failures.
  • Every time we think about forgiving someone, our mind reminds us of their past deeds.
  • Every time we decide to live a bit more carefree, it’s the darn mind that reminds us of our responsibilities.

That’s why we need to take control away from the mind.

To do so, we must first understand how our mind can be utilized, dis-used, mis-used, or put-to-good use.

  • When we need to go someplace. We use our mind to make the plan for when & how to get there.
    That’s utilizing the mind.
  • When we fall asleep. At that time, there is no use for the mind. So our mind rests.
    That’s dis-using the mind.
  • When we allow bad and wrong thoughts to run rampant in our minds.
    That’s mis-using the mind.
  • When we think positive and happy thoughts.
That’s putting the mind to good use or powering-up the mind.

But more often than not, what do we do with our mind?

  • We constantly engage in thoughts – mostly bad, some worse, and some even worst
  • We think about the future or the unknown and WORRY
  • We think of the past and FRET or feel REGRET
  • We ruminate over people and things and circumstances and wonder if we could have done something different

What’s really ironic is that we choose to wear the best clothes, drive the best cars, and eat the best food. When grocery-shopping, we pick out the best vegetables, leaving behind any that don’t look fresh or are rotted. When choosing where to spend our time, we find activities that give us the most pleasure.

But when it comes to our mind, we invest MORE in its misuse that use.

  • We focus on the mistakes and painful memories of the past.

    Painful memories of the past

  • We allow fear and doubt to prevent us from living fully.
    Doubts

    Doubts

  • We allow regrets and angry thoughts to dissipate our positive energy.

    Regrets

You either control your mind or it controls you.

No one makes us do any of this. Nor is it a “weakness” of the mind. So why do we do it?

The answer is: Habit

We human beings are slaves to our habits. Thinking wrong or bad thoughts doesn’t offer any temporary or permanent happiness nor does it offer any satisfaction. But we do it because it’s our habit to dwell on mistakes and lost opportunities. And the pain this causes us is something we live with, rather than once and for all, put the past behind us.

But we alone have the power to power-up our mind and put it to good use. We alone have the power to dissolve a galaxy full of problems.

Power the Mind with Good Inputs

Training the mind isn’t easy but practice does make perfect.

Here are simple ways to train the mind:

Spending time alone

Giving gratitude every minute of every day

Getting in conversation with the Universe (God)

Being mindful (focusing on the now)

Enjoying the simple (little) things in life

We CAN stop misusing our mind with small changes.

So let’s do this already!

TRAIN THE MIND. STOP THE PAIN.

Just be Happy!
